Annual Report

Jeffrey’s story reflects the real impact of Marin Community Clinics’ Whole Family Care model—where care goes beyond symptoms to address the full context of a patient’s life. By supporting not only Jeffrey’s anxiety but also his family’s stress, health, and stability, MCC helped create a stronger foundation for his well-being. This approach is reflected at scale: in 2025, MCC delivered 132,480 medical visits, 69,636 dental visits, and 12,591 behavioral health visits, serving a community where most patients face significant economic challenges. Together, these numbers and stories show how integrated, compassionate care is improving outcomes for individuals and strengthening families across Marin County.

Through Ana’s Eyes: How Whole Family Care Helped Jeffrey

When Jeffrey’s mom — Jeffrey is not his real name — mentioned her son’s anxiety during a routine allergy visit, I sensed there was more to the story. What began as a conversation about allergies and asthma soon revealed a family carrying far more than one diagnosis.

Jeffrey, age 12, was struggling with sleep, focus, and growing anxiety. As I listened, a fuller picture emerged. His mother was working two jobs while managing uncontrolled diabetes. The family was still shaken after a recent home break-in. His father worked six days a week, doing his best to provide stability. Although the family earned too much to qualify for certain safety-net programs, they were still facing financial strain. Jeffrey was absorbing the stress around him — overhearing worries about bills and carrying that tension into school, where fatigue and difficulty concentrating became more noticeable.

This is where Whole Family Care begins. Jeffrey’s symptoms were real, but they were also signals. Treating him alone would not address the challenges affecting his well-being.

Together, we focused on practical steps for the whole family. We discussed stress, coping strategies, and sleep routines.
I supported his mother in managing her own stress and helped the family navigate insurance and follow-up care.
By addressing the needs of the household, we created a more stable environment for Jeffrey.

Over time, small changes made a meaningful difference. When parents feel supported, children often begin to settle. Whole Family Care means looking beyond symptoms and understanding the full story — helping families build stronger foundations for healthier futures.
