Meet Ninad Athale, MD

The Clinics has hired its first addiction medicine specialist: Ninad Athale, MD.
A Family Medicine physician with special certification in addiction medicine, he is working with chronic pain patients to help them overcome their struggles with opioid use. Also, he is teaming up with the Clinics’ social worker to provide pain management support to providers and patients, create treatment protocols, and coordinate with community groups.

Making a difference in people’s lives “There is a big overlap between family practice medicine and treating patients with mental illness, addiction, or chronic pain,” he explains. “Marin Community Clinics provides a great opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives.”

While at Olé Health, a community clinic based in Napa, he worked closely with Napa County’s department of mental health, alcohol, and drug services, and was eventually appointed its medical director.

Athale completed his medical education at UC San Diego and a psychiatry fellowship at UC Davis.

Dr. Athale is an extraordinary physician with innovative practices and tremendous experience,” reports Jose Chibras, MD, Chief Medical Officer. “We are fortunate to have him on the team.”
