Clinician Spotlight: Amanda Hanson, LAc

By July 8, 2019November 24th, 2020No Comments

Amanda Hanson defines acupuncture as her “ikigai” — a Japanese word that means “the thing that you live for.” First exposed to this holistic approach when her art teacher used acupuncture to help relieve his hip pain, she was so impressed that she decided to leave her law practice and pursue acupuncture as a new career.

Following training at the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley, she received a Master’s Degree in Science and Oriental Medicine and became a licensed acupuncturist. Community work has been a family tradition, so her decision to join the Clinics came very naturally.

Special Expertise in Group Acupuncture

Currently working at our San Rafael, Campus, and Larkspur clinics, Amanda is one of only two acupuncturists on our staff; the other is Dena Ito, L.Ac. Amanda brings special expertise in group acupuncture, providing treatments in small groups where she addresses a variety of health issues, including back pain, shoulder pain, osteoarthritis, migraine or chronic headaches, and opioid tapering. Amanda helps improve the health and well-being of many patients. She remembers one patient who said that “acupuncture was the only thing that helped relieve my pain.”

“The Clinics is very fortunate to have Amanda on board,” reports José Chibrás, MD, Chief Medical Officer. “It’s a true gift to our patients to offer access to acupuncture treatment provided by such a knowledgeable and dedicated professional.”
