State Senator Mike McGuire talks about the importance of stepping up to support community healthcare.

Each summer, Marin Community Clinics invites its biggest supporters and community health ambassadors to come together and recognize the accomplishments of two individuals that have made an extraordinary impact in contributing to the health and wellness of Marin County residents. Grace Hughes (former MCC Board member) and Shirin Vakharia (Director of Health and Aging at Marin Community Foundation) received the Community Health Champion Award at this year’s event, which took place on June 21st at Inn Marin in Novato.

In addition to recognizing the honorees, the celebration serves as MCC’s largest annual fundraiser: This year’s event raised more than $185,000! All proceeds benefit MCC and help finance key initiatives – including much needed x-ray equipment and new dental chairs for the expanding 411 4th Street Dental Clinic location. Speakers (in addition to the award recipients) included State Senator Mike McGuire, Interim CEO Leigha Andrews, and Orthodontist Cristina Sola. The event surpassed expectations and was a resounding success.

Every staff member up and down the line at Marin Community Clinics serves the most vulnerable in our community – no matter their background or economic status,” said Senator Mike McGuire, who spoke at the event. “One out of every five Marin County residents walks through the doors of Marin Community Clinics, and they need us to step-up. That’s what this event is about.
