Every Visit, a Step Toward a Healthy Future

Well-Child Visit: Supporting Your Child’s Healthy Growth, Every Step of the Way

Well-child visits are more than just checkups—they’re an essential part of your child’s long-term health and development. These regularly scheduled visits allow your child’s primary care provider to monitor physical growth, track developmental milestones, observe social and learning behaviors, and provide important vaccines and immunizations.

But this visit isn’t just about medical charts and shots—it’s about partnership.

As a parent or caregiver, your voice matters. The well-child visit is your opportunity to ask questions, express concerns, and talk openly about anything on your mind—whether it’s about your child’s sleep patterns, speech development, nutrition, or emotional well-being.

No one knows your child better than you. And we’re here to listen.

Explore this page to learn what to expect from each visit, tips on tracking your child’s milestones, and questions you might want to ask during your appointment. Together, we can help your child thrive—today and for years to come.

What Happens During a Well-Child Visit?

At each well-child appointment, your child’s provider will:

  • Measure height, weight, and head circumference to track growth
  • Assess developmental milestones (movement, speech, learning, and behavior)
  • Perform vision and hearing screenings (age appropriate)
  • Review nutrition, sleep, and safety habits
  • Discuss emotional and social development
  • Provide age-appropriate immunizations and vaccinations
  • Answer any questions you have about parenting and health

These visits are tailored to your child’s age and stage—and to your family’s needs.

When Should My Child Have a Well-Child Visit?

Your child’s health and development change quickly—especially in the early years. That’s why regular well-child visits are essential for staying on top of growth, vaccinations, and developmental milestones.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends well-child visits at the following stages:

  • Infancy: Newborn, two-to-three-week, two-month, four-month, six-month, nine-month
  • Toddlers: 12-month, 15-month, 18-month, 24-month, 30-month
  • Preschool & School Age: three-year, four-year, five-to-seven-year, annually eight-to-21-year

Each visit is an opportunity to check in on your child’s physical, emotional, and social development—and to ask any questions or raise concerns along the way.

Your Questions Matter

No one knows your child better than you—and at Marin Community Clinics, we want to hear from you.

Well-child visits aren’t just for checkups and vaccinations. They’re your best opportunity to ask questions, share concerns, and talk openly with your child’s provider about anything on your mind. Whether your child is an infant, a busy toddler, or a teenager navigating school and social life, we’re here to listen and support.

Here are just a few common topics parents bring up:

  • Growth & Development: “Is my baby crawling on time?”, “Should they be talking more by now?”

  • Nutrition & Sleep: “Are they getting enough to eat?”, “What’s a normal bedtime routine for this age?”

  • Behavior & Emotions: “Why are they having so many tantrums?”, “How can I support their mental health as they get older?”

  • School Readiness & Learning:, “Is my child ready for kindergarten?”, “Should I be concerned about attention or learning delays?”

  • Vaccines & Safety: “What immunizations are due?”, “How can I keep them safe at home and outdoors?”

  • Family Well-Being: “We’re dealing with stress at home—can you help?”, “Are there any community resources we can access?”

Nothing is off-limits, and no concern is too small. Every visit is a chance to build trust, ask questions, and strengthen your child’s care—and your peace of mind.
