On May 19,  twenty eighth graders from Davidson Middle School in San Rafael spent the day at our San Rafael clinic.

Part of the school’s annual Career Day, these students had thirty different organizations to choose from for their visit; they chose the Clinics because of their interest in health care. The teens met with physicians, nurses and medical assistants to learn about  their careers, and had hands-on experience with pediatrician Peter Simon, MD.

Diana Solano, Clinic Patient Support Coordinator, was their “tour guide” for the day.  “They asked a lot of good questions,” she reported. “They wanted to know how long it takes to study to be a nurse, what the daily work is like, and the difference between clinics and hospitals. They were really interested in Marin Community Clinics.”

“Marin Community Clinics is always excited to partner with Davidson School in Career Day,” explained Ruth Rivera, the San Rafael Clinic Director.

“Many of these teens just don’t have a lot of interest in school. By visiting real-life organizations that do meaningful work right in their own community, we hope that we can motivate them to value – and continue – their education.”
