Dr Shimane was born and raised in Wilmington DE. Her parents were immigrants from the Philippines and her Dad was an engineer while her mother was a dentist for Delaware public health for 30 years. Dr Shimane obtained her BS in Psychology in 1994 from St Joseph’s University in Philadelphia PA and then went on to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston MA and graduated in 1998. Since childhood she was drawn to the idea of the west coast and sunny California so after dental school she applied and was accepted to a general practice residency at the VA Dental Clinic Mare Island in Vallejo CA. During this time she met her husband Casey who is an oral surgeon in Castro Valley. They have 3 children and Dr Shimane worked as an associate in private practice for 20 years while enjoying her role as a mom. Dr Shimane has always been interested in volunteering at dental events over the years and gradually realized a calling to serve the underserved in public health dentistry. She looks forward to working with the patients of Marin Community Center.
