Accessibility Policy
Effective Date: 8-27-25
Last Updated: 8-27-25
Marin Community Clinics (“MCC”) is committed to ensuring digital accessibility in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) (Title III), Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, ACA Section 1557 (non-discrimination/effective communication), and the California Unruh Civil Rights Act. Our goal is to provide a digital environment that is inclusive and accessible to individuals with diverse abilities and assistive technology needs.
1. Accessibility Standards and Legal Commitments
MCC strives to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, as published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These standards guide our digital design, development, and ongoing maintenance efforts.
While we are committed to accessibility, MCC makes reasonable efforts to ensure accessibility but cannot guarantee that every page or feature will work for all users or assistive technologies at all times. We recognize that compliance is an ongoing obligation and are committed to iterative improvement.
2. Accessibility Features Implemented
We incorporate the following features and design strategies into our website to enhance accessibility:
- AccessiBe (accessWidget) – An overlay tool that scans and remediates certain accessibility issues in the website code. Updates are applied automatically within approximately 48 hours of content changes.
- Overlay Disclaimer – While we use tools like AccessiBe to improve accessibility, we also perform manual testing and address underlying source code issues wherever possible to ensure compliance.
User-Facing Interface Options:
- Adjust font type, size, and spacing
- Modify color contrast and stop animations
- Enable keyboard navigation support
- Choose from preset accessibility profiles (e.g., Vision Impaired, ADHD-friendly)
Code-Level Measures:
- Use of semantic HTML and ARIA attributes for screen reader compatibility
- Responsive design for desktop, tablet, and mobile
- Alt text for meaningful images and graphical elements
- Clear typographic hierarchy and sufficient color contrast
3. Compatibility with Assistive Technologies
The Site is intended to work with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox) and on desktop and mobile devices. For best results, keep your OS, browser, and assistive tech up to date.
Our Site is tested to function with widely used assistive technologies and operating systems, including:
- Screen readers (e.g., JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver)
- Screen magnification software
- Voice recognition software
- On-screen keyboards
- Refreshable Braille displays
4. Evaluation, Monitoring, and Content Updates
To maintain accessibility, MCC conducts:
- Automated audits using AccessiBe’s continuous scanning tools
- Manual testing and expert evaluation of key user pathways
- Continuous monitoring of reported accessibility barriers
- Accessibility review of all new or updated content prior to publication to help maintain WCAG 2.1 AA compliance
Accessibility is addressed as part of our website maintenance and vendor oversight processes.
5. Third-Party Platforms and Limitations
While we aim for comprehensive accessibility, some third-party content or platforms (e.g., MyChart, embedded maps, or media) may not fully conform to MCC’s accessibility standards. These systems are governed by their own accessibility policies.
Known limitations may include:
- PDFs or legacy documents not fully optimized for screen readers
- Multimedia content lacking transcripts or captions
- Interactive elements from external vendors that do not support keyboard navigation
If you encounter an accessibility issue with a third-party platform linked from our Site, please notify us. We will work with the provider to address the barrier or offer an alternative method to access the content.
6. Accessibility Feedback, Effective Communication, and Requesting Accommodations
We welcome user feedback to improve the accessibility of our digital services.
If you encounter an accessibility issue or wish to request a reasonable accommodation, MCC will provide auxiliary aids, services, or alternative formats upon request to ensure effective communication with individuals with disabilities.
