Marin Community Clinics Short Film
At Marin Community Clinics we are a “family helping other families in the community” and we are always striving to be better for the people and the community we serve. This video is a patient’s story from the voice of a mother.
Marin Community Clinics CEO: Mitesh Popat, MD, MPH
Popat, who has served as Chief Medical Officer since November 2013 and as Associate CEO since February 2017, succeeds Linda Tavaszi, who transitioned from the CEO position on August 30, 2017. Since that time, Popat has served as Interim CEO. He will continue to serve as the medical leader until a new Chief Medical Officer is hired.
A board-certified family practice physician, Popat was selected by the board following an extensive search by the Clinic’s Board of Directors
“We are very excited to have someone of Dr. Popat’s caliber in this role,”explained Oken. He brings an impressive array of clinical, administrative, and strategic planning expertise. These qualities, coupled with his superb medical leadership, commitment to quality, and devotion to our Clinics and the community we serve, make him the ideal person to serve as our new CEO. The Clinic is in good hands.”
“It is a tremendous honor to be appointed to this position,” said Popat. “Community clinics play a vital role in the health of the overall community, and our mission is now more important than ever. We provide top quality care, have an extremely strong team, and are financially strong. I look forward to continuing to enhance our great work.”
Popat received his medical and public health degrees from Tufts University School of Medicine. Prior to joining Marin Community Clinics, he served as Associate Medical Director of La Clinica de la Raza (Vallejo). He is a resident of Novato.
Marin Community Clinics has provided compassionate and affordable health care to uninsured and low-income residents of Marin County for more than 43 years. We have grown from humble beginnings where volunteer physicians and nurses saw patients in church basements, to a 21st century provider with modern facilities, highly expert paid physicians and nurses, the latest technology, and sophisticated diagnostic, treatment and prevention programs. Today, we serve more than 35,000 individuals every year in our nine clinics spread throughout Marin County.
As the largest community health center in the County, we play a major role in the community’s health care network, serving patients with insurance as well as those who are ineligible for insurance coverage.
Marin Community Clinics provides a full range of primary health care as well as dentistry, behavioral health, obstetrics & gynecology, family planning, optometry, chiropractic, and some specialty services.
Compassionate Health Care for our Community
Marin Community Clinics is an independent, nonprofit organization that is a vital part of the healthcare network of our community. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, we serve patients from all walks of life. Our patients include those who are employed and have private health insurance, people enrolled in Covered California plans, people covered by public insurance programs, and those with limited or no health insurance. No one is turned away and charges are based on each individual’s ability to pay.
Thanks to the community support and government reimbursement that we receive, thousands of uninsured women, men, teens, and children have access to medical and dental care. As a result, more children and adults are receiving regular check-ups and are immunized, employees can stay healthier, and medical problems are addressed before they become life-threatening, and costly to treat.

Our Values guide our work every day.
In his mid-30s, Marin Community Clinics’ patient Jorge Magaña was suffering from unbearable pain. “I would put my hands on my hips to support them, and shuffle at an angle to walk,” explains Jorge, who was working at a gas station. “I was in a lot of pain.” As a result of the hard work of Marin Community Clinics and a partnership with a local hospital, Jorge is now healthy, walking normally, and working.
